History of Urdu Poetry

Urdu language and literature is more popular in all over the world especially in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and United States. Urdu literature has long history, even written novels, afsanas, and some other kinds of literature but poetry has its own unique importance since past and still many famous poets write poetry. Literature in Urdu grew at three different centres: Delhi, Deccan and Lucknow.  
A number of poets produced from the middle of the fourteenth to the middle of the eighteenth centuries. Quli Qutab Shah (1565-1611) is generally known as first notable poet. Later, found many other poets including Wali Deccani (1635-1707), Mirza Mohammad Rafi Sauda (1713-1780), Siraj Aurangabadi (1715-1763), Khwaja Mir Dard (1721-1785), Mir Taqi Mir (1722-1810), Ghulam Hamdani Mushafi (1725-1824), Insha’Allah Khan Insha (1757-1817), Khwaja Haidar Ali Atish (1778-1846), Iman Baksh Nasikh (1787-1838), Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib (1797-1869), Mir Babr Ali anis (1802-1874), Mirza Salamat Ali Dabir (1803-1875) and Nawab Mirza Khan Dagh (1831-1905). With the passage of time many other famous poets did a lot of work in poetry and Allama Iqbal (1877-1903) was one of them, who later known as the national poet of Pakistan.
In Pakistan Urdu poetry is most famous in nowadays. The new poets in Pakistan have created his own blend of the lyrical with the prosaic, the manifest with the allegorical. Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Farhat Abbas Shah, Kishwar Naheed and many other Urdu poets are included in list of famous Pakistani poets.
